Azerbaijan - Tajikistan relations.

Brief historical background:

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on 29 May 1992. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Tajikistan was opened in 2007. The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Republic of Azerbaijan was opened in 2008. Currently, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Tajikistan is Elkhan Jahangir oglu Gahraman.

Heads of State:

15-16 March 2007 – President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid an official visit to Tajikistan.

13-14 August 2007 – President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid an official visit to Azerbaijan.

4-5 October 2007 – President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid a working visit to Tajikistan (meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State).

12-13 July 2012 – President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid an official visit to Azerbaijan.

15-16 October 2012 – President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid a working visit to Azerbaijan (summit of heads of state and government of the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization).

10-11 August 2018 - President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon was on an official visit to Azerbaijan.

27-28 September 2018 - President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid a working visit to Tajikistan (meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State).

5-6 April 2023 - President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid a state visit to Tajikistan.

14 September 2023 - President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid a working visit to Tajikistan (as guest of honor at the 5th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia). 

24 November 2023 - President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid a working visit to Azerbaijan (UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) Summit).

22-23 May 2024 - President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid a state visit to Azerbaijan.

11 November 2024 - President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid a working visit to Azerbaijan (COP29).

4 July 2025 - President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon paid a working visit to Azerbaijan (17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO)).

9-10 October 2025 - President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid a working visit to Tajikistan (meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State).

28-30 October 2025 - Chairman of the Assembly of Representatives of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan Fayzali Idizoda paid a working visit to Azerbaijan (International Parliamentary Conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Azerbaijan)

Visits:

10-12 August 2009 Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan Abulfaz Garayev was on a visit to Tajikistan to take part in the 24th session of the CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation, held in the city of Dushanbe.

5-6 May 2018 Minister of Culture of Tajikistan Shamsiddin Orumbekzoda was on a visit to Azerbaijan to take part in the 4th World Forum for Intercultural Dialogue to be held in Baku.

22-23 May 2024 Minister of Culture of Tajikistan Matlubakhon Sattoriyon was on a visit to Azerbaijan as part of the Days of Tajikistani Culture held in Azerbaijan.

20-21 May 2025 Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Adil Karimli was on a visit to Tajikistan as part of the Days of Azerbaijani Culture held in Tajikistan.
